The History of Political Party Symbols
The Democratic Party
The Democratic Party is one of the two major political parties in the US. The official Democrat logo is entirely blue as the color blue is now commonly associated with the Democrat Party while the color red links to the Republican party.
The Republican Party
The Republican Party was formed in 1854 and six years later Abraham Lincoln became its first member elected to the White House.
The 1874 cartoon often credited with popularizing the elephant as a symbol for the Republican Party.
The Jacksonian Movement
The Jacksonian movement would eventually become the Democratic Party in 1828. Democracy was a popular term that was used by those who supported Andrew Jackson.
