South Sudan's Luol Deng Unveils Roster for Upcoming FIBA World Cup

Historic Qualification for African Nation

South Sudan's basketball team is making history as they prepare to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first African nation to do so in the men's basketball tournament. The team qualified for the Olympics by finishing as the top-ranking African team in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

World Cup Debut

Before their Olympic adventure, South Sudan will make their debut in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, where they will face off against some of the world's top teams. The World Cup roster, unveiled by legendary NBA All-Star Luol Deng, who is also the team's head coach, includes 12 players who will represent South Sudan on the global stage.

Qualifiers and Roster

The road to the World Cup and Olympics began in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, which ran from November 2021 to February 2023. South Sudan emerged victorious, earning one of five African national team spots in the World Cup. The 12-man roster for the World Cup will be announced shortly.
