NSW Blues Team Unveiled: Maguire Surprises with Inclusions and Omissions
Michael Maguire's First Squad as Blues Coach
Freshly appointed NSW Blues coach Michael Maguire has made his mark on the team, selecting a squad featuring both unexpected inclusions and notable omissions. The first game of the 2024 Ampol State of Origin series is set to kick off at Accor Stadium on June 5, and the Blues will be led by a new captain: Sea Eagles forward Jake Trbojevic.
Surprising Inclusions and Omissions
Among the most notable additions to the team is winger Josh Addo-Carr, who was surprisingly dropped for last year's series. Maguires's decision to bring back the "lightning winger" is sure to be a popular choice with fans.
Other surprise inclusions include Sharks forward Teig Wilton and Panthers center Stephen Crichton. Both players have been in impressive form for their respective clubs and will be looking to make a name for themselves on the Origin stage.
As for omissions, some long-serving Blues players have been left out of Maguire's squad. Most notably, Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray and Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary will not be part of the team for Game One. Murray's omission is particularly surprising given his impressive record with the Blues.
